Jane's father died and her mother ran out on Jane and Ben before the series started. Jane's mother has returned home to Jane and Ben, and she stays awhile. This year’s class includes A Tribe Called Quest, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Mary J. Blige, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, Peter Frampton, and Ozzy Osbourne. Teenage Jane lands a job at Donovan Decker, a hip fashion house, when they mistake her for an adult. Jane Quimby, (Erica Dasher) is a teenager, mistaken for an adult, who lands her fashion dream job. She has her best friend Billy (Nick Roux) help her out, although he had a relationship with Lulu (Meagan Tandy), a girl who has been mean to Jane since the seventh grade. Now Billy dates the new girl, Zoe, which makes Jane feel like he's replacing her.

Helping Jane at school is Billy Nutter (Nick Roux), her best friend from childhood. He would do anything for Jane but is secretly dating her high school nemesis, Lulu Pope (Meagan Tandy).
